Grosse Pointe Yacht Club Wine & Gourmet Appreciation

It all started with a few GPYC members who love great cuisine and fine wines. We began with some informal get-togethers, sipping wine, nibbling cheese and discussing the possibilities of sponsoring a few events at the club. We all agreed that our mission was to bring club members together for experiences that would be fun as well as informative. From our very first event -- a tasting featuring wines from the Yacht Club's award-winning wine list -- the response has been extraordinary! We have followed up with many more tastings, centered around such themes as grape varieties, specific vineyards, California vs. France, wine and cheese pairings and a pairing of international foods and wines. We also organize two wine dinners each year that have become extremely popular. Held in the spring and fall, these, too, are built around a theme (Harvest and the Hunt, A Taste of Tuscany, Food and Wines of the Pacific Northwest, to name a few). Chef Carney works closely with the committee to create a menu that perfectly complements the wine selections. We have been lucky enough to occasionally welcome wine makers as well as local wine representatives to these affairs.

Our group is extremely proud of our contributions to the establishment of the Wine Cellar and Wine Vault Program. We were instrumental in setting up the rules for vault owners and consulted on the cellar itself. One of our members donated the table in the cellar; another the entry door.

Any club member is eligible and welcome to join our group. Wine vault owners are automatically included in the membership. We don't hold regular meetings, but announce upcoming meetings in The Mast. So please keep your eye out for information that will be published there, or right here on the Web site.
